Science & STEM – Nat Geo’s New INGREDIENTS Video Series

Ingredients with George Zaidan

Finding projects and experiments that will interest and engage science and STEM students can often prove problematic for After School or Club providers not to mention that very often the costs associated with curriculum or boxed-projects can prove a little out of reach.

Sometimes it’s not even a full-on project you’re looking for but something to engage your students or campers for an odd few minutes here or there or at the end of a session.

Well now you can fill that time with these short, fun, interesting and most importantly, thought provoking videos called, Ingredients from George Zaidan and National Geographic. I first saw them at the tail end of a round-up email from NatGeo and chanced upon the Toothpaste video – I was hooked and watched all the available videos back to back.

George Zaidan explains the sometimes complicated science behind the ingredients in everyday household items, in a simple fun way, with easy graphics and explanations. Then using science he attempts to recreate these items at home and scores his product. I particularly loved his honesty with success and failure alike which can prove very amusing.

All the videos come with the obligatory, ‘don’t do this at home’, disclaimer but if you are a science teacher and are qualified, I know I would have loved to have made some of these items when I was studying science. If you’re not, as I said above, these videos really make you think and would prove great discussion points for your students and at the very least an educational filler for those, ‘shoot we finished early moments’.
